As we discovered when we found out about third-party car insurance in Spain, it is an obligatory and compulsory minimum amount of insurance as dictated by Spanish law that you must have when driving a car on Spanish roads. For a very small extra amount on top of your car insurance premiums, you can upgrade to include protection against the theft of your car or damage arising from a fire in your car.

If a fully comprehensive Spanish car insurance policy was costing €500, then roughly you would expect the third party fire and theft policy to be around €350. Clearly a lot less, but the €150 gives you an awful lot more for your money as well as roadside assistance and in some cases legal assistance too.

If you are in doubt about what your Spanish car insurance policy actually covers you for them to check the documentation which inevitably will be in Spanish but look at the section where it says ‘responsabilidad civil obligatoria, incendio y robo – then this means you have third-party fire and theft insurance.

In order to find the cheapest third party fire and theft car insurance in Spain we recommend that you search online and compare many different quotations from different brokers and insurance companies. The competition for car insurance in Spain is substantial because the car insurance companies know that once they have you on board as a customer, inertia tends to set in and you will tend to keep renewing each year often without questioning whether you can go get a lower quote elsewhere.

It is the nature of human beings to be a bit lazy. We would encourage you each year to question your provider of third-party fire and theft car insurance and ask them if it’s possible to reduce the premiums. Telling them you have got a cheaper quote elsewhere always tends to make them come up with a lower quote!
